If you’re here, it may mean that you’re still looking for a deeper understanding of why hypnosis might work for you. Let me ask you this: Could you be the person that has tried numerous times to quit smoking but it always leads you back to lighting a cigarette? Or the person who keeps leaving your ex, saying “this is the last time!” only to find yourself going back within days of convincing yourself it truly was the last time. You’re not alone.
What you have experienced is this unconscious desire to maintain homeostasis. In hypnotherapy, I would define homeostasis as the desire to keep your life the same as it has been for any prolonged period of time. It makes sense though. Maintaining a routine, predictable life is good for our minds and for our stress levels. We know what to expect and how to best prepare for each repeated situation in our lives. If the situation hasn’t become boring, we might really excel each time we have to do it again. Where it doesn’t help us is when we want to make a change for the better. We deserve better.
The concept of homeostasis may sometimes put us at odds with ourselves and we find the two different parts of our brain are fighting for the control of the future. One sabotages the other to keep progress from changing what we have grown used to. Staying in an unhelpful situation may provide us the comfort and safety of familiarity even when it doesn’t challenge us nor does it help us grow to be better. Taking on changes in our lives can present opportunities that could lead to a better life or better experience but it causes a lot of unpleasant feelings such as stress, anxiety and fear.
Hypnosis is potent because it bypasses our critical mind and encourages our stubborn subconscious mind to allow changes to happen, in as quickly as one session in many cases. It rallies the subconscious mind to support all the desired changes of our conscious mind. Fortunately, we innately have the power to change our beliefs, emotional responses and behavioral habits through a concept called neuroplasticity. Through the use of hypnotic techniques, Neurolinguistic Programming and therapeutic imagery, we can aid the process of change and help you elevate your life to its fullest potential.
Going back to your past relationships with cigarettes or the crazy ex becomes harder and harder with hypnosis. We will create for you a new stasis for which your mind will become accustomed. The need to visit this unhealthy place becomes diminished and your desire to return to the new improved you becomes stronger with each and every breath you take.
